CRM, OFFICE VARS AND RESELLING

Office 365 logoA funny thing happened on the way to the webinar. It was cancelled. In this case, it was the webinar scheduled for resellers of Microsoft Office 365 who were told they could sign up for "Microsoft Office 365 Partners – Increase Your Revenue with Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online." It was supposed to be held Thursday, April 4.

It was being promoted on the blog of Kevin Machayya on the Microsoft website, which is the place to read anything really official about Dynamics these days. I only got to one reseller to ask the reaction about letting the masses of Office VARs into the business and he said he thought that was the future and that Dynamics accounting products, except for AX, would end up that way. When the first Worldwide Partner Conference brought together classic Microsoft VARs and ERP resellers together for the first time in 2003, it was clear that the classic VARs were much less sophisticated than the accounting crowd. So offering CRM to this group led me to think Microsoft believes CRM has gotten to the point it takes a lot less skill to sell, install and implement. But the way the cancellation was phrased has me revisiting that thought and wondering if Microsoft has reversed its position. This is a cancellation, not a postponement. As it appeared on Wednesday, the notice was "DUE TO UNFORESEEN CIRCUMSTANCES THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED". So for whatever reasons, Office VARs do not get to spend 60 minutes learning about selling opportunities, best practices and "why Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online matters to customers as a catalyst for being more effective, and why Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online matters to you as a partner."
