SAGE BUYS BRAZILIAN COMPANIES

Sage logoThe Sage Group increased its presence in Brazil this week with the acquisition of two companies. These are the second and third purchases in the South American country this year. Sage bought Empresa Brasileira de Sistemas, which makes accounting, business management and tax software, for about $17.3 million. It also picked up Cenize Informática, which makes accounting software for small businesses, for about $6.3 million.
The deals were made via Folhamatic Tecnologia em Sistemas, a Brazilian company that Sage purchased in June. Folhamatic does accounting, tax and regulatory content software. The new acquisitions will be integrated into Folhamatic. The talk about Sage itself being a takeover target does not seem to have died down so if there is any truth to that, Sage is going to go down swinging. The speculation has been more specific than in the last few years, but it always seemed to me that such gossip usually comes up before Sage closes a half so it's possible it's just some investors trying to push up stock price with some well-placed rumors. Sage closes its year on September 30 and the recent increase in share price is certainly beneficial to portfolios.
