QUICKEN GOING TO THE CLOUD

Brad Smith, IntuitIntuit is writing a cloud version of Quicken, its decades-old personal finance application. The new platform will let both Mac and Windows users utilize the same code base, according to CEO Brad Smith. Smith made this comments at this week’s shareholder meeting in answer to a question from a shareholder who runs a business that serves clients using the Mac desktop product. She noted she made that complaint at the 2011 meeting and was hoping for good news for clients.
She said customers are unhappy that Intuit has not improved their product sufficiently. Smith said Quicken has suffered because there are other areas in the company that are growing faster and getting more attention. He noted Intuit has been utilizing the Mint software engine in the development process and that a new general manager for the business started 90 days ago. Intuit hopes to find ways to spur Quicken growth. Smith said Intuit wants to find out “the ways we can get the Quicken brand and Quicken franchise to be a growth engine.” Smith did not give any estimate of when the new product would be available or any insights into features other than to say the application would feel native to both Mac and Windows users.
