NEW MACONOMY; BLEND OF CPA SYSTEMS

Drew West, MaconomyFrom a cursory view, you might want to tag Deltek Maconomy Public Accounting Solution as an accounting system. But the new application, aimed at accounting firms with 75 or more employees, really blends ERP with traditional CPA practice management and project and customer relationship management capabilities. It is a “view of the entire practice,” says Drew West, who leads product marketing for the Maconomy effort. He continues that, “The CPA firms tend to view their business in terms of the relationship with their clients.”
The official description is that the Public Accounting Solution also incorporates Resource Planning, Human Capital Management and Business Intelligence. Or perhaps we just should say, it encompasses the front and back office. The system’s target can also be defined by its cost – the typical software license range is from $75,000 to $100,000 and there are training and consulting implementation costs on top of that. It’s probably also safe to say that Deltek’s intensified effort is this area is one of the results of the decision of Mize Houser not to progress with its CPA/MIS system, that has been used by many top 100 firms, and to partner with Star Americas for access to its practice management system. That change of a couple of years ago seemed to open up buying decisions in the top 100.
