WICKHAM: BETTER COMMUNICATION NEEDED

Rich Wickham, MicrosoftMicrosoft needs better communication with its channel, according to Rich Wickham, the new GM of Dynamics partner sales. “We need to do a better job of how we have a conversation with partners,” Wickham said during an interview at Microsoft’s Convergence conference this month. “I think we do not have enough collaborative conversations,” said Wickham, who said that more dialog is necessary because of the many changes the channel has faced recently.

However one part of the conversation is unlikely to change. When asked about the trend for Dynamics resellers to pick up other products, Wickham steered the conversation to a very standard Microsoft answer – “I think the right bet for most Microsoft partners is how to increase the Microsoft stack they are selling,” he said. Wickham also believes that Microsoft “owes the channel a better story on the integration of those products.” He conceded the company needs to work on its message in the cloud, although he reported Microsoft still finds many buyers ask about cloud-based products, but don’t buy them. Wickham also rejected the widespread belief that Dynamics AX is the favorite child among the four financial applications in the Dynamics line and pointed to the development of new features in GP, NAV and SL. But he added "I think we need to find ways to grow those businesses." I believe Microsoft's giving Doug Kennedy the AX volume business and Wickham the other part of the midmarket line recently will help address some issues by not lumping the other three products with AX as much. It recognizes a different business model is being used on the high end.
