COLUMBUS U.S. REVS RISE 31 PERCENT Featured

ColumbusThe business of Columbus in the United States outstripped the rate of growth for the company worldwide for the first half ended July 31. But while net income for the Denmark–based Dynamics reseller and developer grew by 65.6 percent, earnings in this country fell by 37 percent.

The net result in the U.S. dropped  to about $766,000 while revenue rose to roughly $17.4 million. A substantial part of the revenue would be from the operations of the former First Tech Direct, which Columbus acquired on March 1, 2012 for $3.9 million. Earnings for the company rose to about $11.5 million on revenue of about $81.7 million. Total revenue was 2.7 percent higher than the corresponding half of 2012 as the weak economy in Western Europe held down growth. A substantial part of the company's revenue, about $36 million, came from three industry applications, Columbus Food, Retail and Manufacturing. That revenue total was up 17 percent from the prior year. Last year, Columbus established the Improve Services Program, which was designed to increase services revenue. First half-revenue growth of 12 percent was attributed largely to that program with a focus on reducing contract work in progress and trade receivables. One big change in recent Columbus financial reports from past years is that the sale of products, once broken out by Dynamics NAV and AX, has disappeared. In fact, I could not find mention of those products or even of Microsoft in the management report or the financial tables. Instead, revenue is reported as Columbus licenses, Columbus maintenance or external licenses and external maintenance with Columbus revenue about $4.9 million or 17.6 percent of the total.
