SAGE ONE EXTRA TO U.S. IN 2014 Featured

sage oneSage will bring Sage One Accounts Extra, the more robust version of its low-cost cloud accounting system, to the United States next year. Chief Executive Guy Berruyer said this week during an earnings webcast that the product will this country next summer, although he hedged that it could go one or two months beyond that. Berruyer noted that development for the launch of the product, which is designed for companies with five to 25 employees, has been given a priority for the U.S.

One reason for emphasis here is that Sage One Extra fits nicely into the space that has been served by Peachtree, which has been companies with more than 10 employees. "This will hit more the sweet spot of where we've been in the U.S.," Berruyer said. Extra launched in the United Kingdom in October. The product was described as having enhanced forecasting tools, automated bank reconciliation, multi-currency and sophisticated cash flow management, additional functionality of invoicing and payments integration. Since it has support for Value-added Taxes in the U.K. and Ireland, it is probably safe to assume that it will support sales taxes here. Berruyer noted that with the spread of web-based connected services, Sage is rethinking its approach to pricing. While the company is moving rapidly to subscription pricing for both on-premise and Internet-based products, it is also examining the possibility of charging per use for some features. While Berruyer noted "we have not done that, yet" he put a lot of emphasis on the word "yet" which suggests the move is likely. Sage is also looking at how it sets prices, given the movement from the traditional pricing schemes involving license, maintenance and support of part of the pricing package.
