WHETHER GEMACCOUNTS? Featured

Ken Del Gobbo, GemaccountsThere's always an opportunity for speculation when a company makes an announcement of an entry into a new market, and then nothing seems to happen. So it is with Australian vendor Gemaccounts, which announced its entry into the America market in August, hired industry veteran Ken Del Gobbo as president in October and issued its last press release do date in December. More peculiar is that its last tweet was on April 15--8 Helpful Accounting Software Apps For Businesses.

And however helpful those applications are, that's the last public statement. However, Del Gobbo said this week that does not mean there is no activity--more than 700 clients have signed up for a trial version. The company is also not targeting traditional ERP VARs. "We are having better success recruiting bookkeepers and accountants. Those people that have existing QuickBooks and Xero clients that have outgrown these systems but can't afford a high-end ERP system," he said. That puts GemAccounts in the same market with other trying to garner low-end graduates, such as Exact with its Exact Online, which the company says is having trouble gaining traction with QB users that need to move up. DelGobbo also noted most of the company's activity is not in the United States. Still, I'm not sure how aggressive a company's marketing is if it cannot sustain an active Twitter feed.
