DELTEK PURCHASES AXIUM Featured

Chris Heim, AxiumDeltek has acquired Axium, a company that markets accounting and project management application to architecture and engineering firms. The segment is already a key market for Deltek and the Herndon, Va.-based company said that Axium has more than 2,200 A&E customers in North American with most of these having fewer than 250 employees each. Terms were not announced. Clark Haley, CEO of BCS/ProSoft, a Deltek reseller, applauded the deal.

He said Axium has been very aggressive. "Deltek has been losing 100+- customers per year to them and they have been slow to adjust," he said. Haley said that stemmed from Deltek's concentration on firms with 50 or more employees. Axium CEO Chris Heim and CFO Dan Mayleben acquired Portland, Ore.-based Axium in January 2013 from Alan and Cathy Mills. Heim and Mayleben are both XIR/partners at investment firm General Catalyst Partners. Heim was CEO of HighJump Software from 1997 until 2006. The business was sold to 3M in 2003. The two will not join Deltek. Axium's products include Ajera, an accounting and project management application, and Project Trek, a collaboration and document management package.
