This is standard procedure for Avalara, which believes that one of the keys to success in the growing market for indirect tax products is to have connectors to as many applications as possible. TrustFile, also cloud-based, imports .csv data from both online and physical stores and analyzing the sales data and company location, the application generates a report to help businesses determine in which jurisdictions they need to pay sales tax and the system can file the returns. Avalara says there is no rule about whether it or the partner builds the integration. "It's usually determined by development backlog," says Marshal Kushniruk, Avalara's EVP of global business development. "However Avalara always prefers the publisher build and maintain the integration. We believe it's a better experience for the customer."

XERO BUILDING AVALARA INTEGRATION Featured
Xero will build tax rates integration to work with Avalara's AvaTax system, the companies said at this week's Xerocon conference. That will enable Xero users to have access to regular updates of changes in tax rates and tax boundaries and let them calculate sales tax rates in invoices. Avalara also plans to integrate its TrustFile tax return software with Xero.
