MICROSOFT ROLLS OUT GP 2010, SURPRISE

It would have been hard not to miss the build up and there was only a bit of letdown when the press release issued under NDA before it was made public turned out to be for Dynamics GP 2010. Considering the number of launch events resellers have scheduled for the new version, there weren’t too many people that didn’t know this product was hitting the market soon—general release is May 1. Errol Schoenfish, director of product management, said there are three themes with GP 2010.

The first is enhancing the ability to enable information to be more visible to users  (I suppose you could dye it), along with aggregating information and analyzing it. This all gets addressed partially through 15 new roles and a dashboard inside of Sharepoint. GP 2010 also offers out-of-the-box integration to Dynamics CRM. One of the most interesting is in the area of step workflow, but for workflow that isn't necessarily ERP focused. For example, Schoenfish said a company could require checking Better Business Bureau records when a vendor is added to the system. There is also integration with Word for building invoices, that includes the ability to draw up hundreds of invoice templates. I think Microsoft scaled back its initial press release about the new version which began, "Let there be light ..."
