SAP B1, BYD LEADER OUT Featured

SAP appears to be in a major organization realignment with two members of the executive board leaving. There’s a lot more movement below that with significant changes to the leadership of its Business One and Business By Design products, which were placed in the same organization last year.

Michael Schmitt has moved on from leading the Business One and Business by Design Group. Schmitt, with the German software company since 2000, had been in charge of ByD since July 2014. In April 2018, SAP also put him in charge of B1. However, this month, his title, SVP of SAP Business One and SAP Business By Design Group, changed to simply SVP, according to his LinkedIn profile. A long-time B1 leader, Luis Murguia, is also gone or going. Murguia joined SAP in June 2006 and served as B1 SVP and GM from January 2015 through March 2018. He was then SVP for B1 and ByD from April 2018 through this month with no additional job description on his LinkedIn profile. New this month is Juergen Sattler, SVP for SAP Cloud SME Solutions and Content. While the title does not name B1 and ByD, “Juergen is in charge,” one knowledgeable channel observer said. While he said reorganization is normal for SAP, Schmitt and Murguia had decently long tenures in the SME market and it's not every year two board members leave. This year has also seen Karl Fahrbach become the company’s first chief partner officer and Greg Petraetis was selected as new mid-market leader for North America. Abdul Razack, head of technology and architecture for the SAP Cloud from December 2017, became chief product officer in March. Maxwell Wessel took over as chief innovation officer in January after leading the SAP Labs since March 2018. Exiting was Björn Goerke, with SAP from 1995 and an SAP freelancer for seven years before that. This month, Goerke left the job of chief technology officer and president of the SAP Cloud Platform, which he had held since April 2017.
