IDC STUDY PREDICTS IT GROWTH

The number of jobs in IT in the United States will grow at a rate of 1.6 percent a year from the end of this year through 2013, according to an IDC study sponsored by Microsoft. Results from that study, released on October 4, found that the number of IT jobs will rise to 10.1 million during that time, up just over 1 million positions.

IDC also predicted that the IT market would spur the creation of nearly 13,000 new businesses by the end of 2013, most of which will be small, locally owned organizations. IT spending, which the study calculated at $488 billion for 2009, will rise by 2.3 percent a year, compared to gross domestic product growth of just .5 percent a year during the same four-year period.
