SORTING OUT BLACKBAUD's PARTNER PAGE

Since Blackbaud has been testing out the reseller channel again for The Financial Edge, I ventured into the Blackbaud Connect Partner Network page on its Web site. I found a handful of organizations carrying the nonprofit accounting package and another handful that continue to sell the Kintera FundWare application. But the most interesting thing there reminds me of last week’s discussion of Microsoft’s Pinpoint, another Web-based partner search tool.
Even more than Microsoft, Blackbaud has fallen victim to using industry jargon for categorizing its channel members. Suppose I’m an enduser in the market for one of the products that Blackbaud manufacturers and I come across this selection of categories of channel members that might help me: Referral Partners, Solutions Partners, Consulting Partners, Application Partners. It took me some time to reason that Solutions Partners are likely resellers. But it's primarily because in covering the industry for years, I know Solutions Partner is a common formal name for a reseller program. If I’m an end user, does this have any value for me? Or do I look for something more likely to answer my questions?
