TAYLOR MACDONALD ON THE ROAD AGAIN

Taylor MacdonaldAfter about a year at enterprise software vendor, Infor, Taylor Macdonald, who was VP of worldwide channels is out of a job again. But I get the sense this may be more like his departure from Sage in October 2007 than his voluntary move from Deltek to Promethean at the end of 2008 and a similar move to Infor early in 2009. Macdonald could not be reached for comment and Infor released a fairly standard statement thanking him for his work in evaluating the company's channel and wishing him well.
It added the standard statement that he was pursuing new opportunities. But I can't shake the feeling that with Infor announcing this week it had recruited 25 new VARs, and declaring its program a success, that his departure was a sort of slam, bam ... you know the phrase. After Macdonald left Sage as he and three other executives were ousted he spent most of 2008 building a channel for Deltek and did the same for in his shorter stay at Promethean. The wording "evaluating" the channel program is interesting because it suggests someone at Infor viewed his role more as consulting than recruiting and putting together the program. There have been few names released of business partners (I'm not sure they are all VARs) signing with Infor during his tenure. Macdonald's name was in a press release from one of them so he had some visibility. The idea that 25 partners is a success also suggests that Infor may not have seen the need for someone to continue with the work Macdonald was performing. Infor is obviously moving to integrate its far-flung applications and programs that it largely got by acquisition. Macdonald said the purchases had also brought a number of different reseller programs and his goal was to make them as uniform as possible.
