TRYING MICROSOFT PINPOINT

Pinpoint was available on the Microsoft Web site some months ago in a beta form. Now that the search mechanism has been featured on the company’s homepage (it went off today), it’s obviously been launched, although I can’t say exactly when. Pinpoint, a tool for finding different organizations, including resellers, developers, can be searched by a variety of criteria, including company and software.
The most straightforward way of looking for Dynamics resellers is via the drop-down menu on the competency section by selecting "Microsoft Business Solutions." Then the Dynamics applications are available for selection via the next menu, "Specialization." That’s odd since I remember the discussion of how Dynamics was the brand and MBS wouldn’t be used externally. Since MBS hasn’t been visible, I would suggest users may not easily figure out what this selection means. Basically, this asks users to understand Microsoft jargon. The tool has the usual options of searching my increasingly larger geographical areas, out to 200 miles from a zip code. And a big plus is the appearance of the map, which shows numbered flags for locations found. This is a lot more readable than most maps of this sort. Changing selections, such as industries, also produces a very quick refresh of the map. Looks like it just needs more VARs and other partners to get their information up.
