FACEBOOK PAGE (MINE) HACKED

The 257 friends I currently have on Facebook were startled to get an offer of a free iPod from me (sorry, only one per customer). Of course, I don't deal in volume and that must have happened right before I tried to get back into Facebook and I was notified my account had been suspended for suspicious activity. This must spread itself through from one person’s friends list to the lists of those friends, and so on; the way some viruses will email themselves to everybody in the Outlook contact database.

The particularly infuriating thing was the reauthentification process. First came those strange letters, designed to weed out the automated systems, that have to be entered in a dialogue box. Then, you are offered a series of seven pictures, accompanied by a selection of friends’ names and told to identify them. There are a limited number of I don't knows allowed and if any are incorrectly identified, the systems keeps you shut out. Presumably, it offers profile pictures for the ID and the first three were fine. Then came two individuals with baby pictures and one with a dog, which blew the allotment of I don't know's. That left me with the need to answer the seventh and it was someone I am not as familiar with in what may have been a different hairdo. And I was still shut out. Oh, yes, you are limited to one try per hour. For my next venture, there will be an offer of authentic looking, gold-like coins in the form of Bill Gates in fairly limited (a couple of million) edition from the Franklin Mint.
