EPICOR QUARTER BOOMS
Epicor Software ended its third quarter on September 30 with a 16-percent increase in revenue and the company expecting even better things from the current quarter as Epicor 9 continues to fuel growth. "We believe we have one of the strongest software revenue quarters in history ahead of us," CEO George Klaus said in this week's earnings conference call. That came as Epicor recorded the second largest amount of revenue in a third quarter in its history and reversed the normal drop in software license sales as the company goes from second quarter to the third quarter.
Third-quarter revenue was $114.6 million for the quarter just ended, up from $98.6 million. License revenue rose to $20.2 million, an increase from $13.7 million in last year's corresponding period. The company lost $9.4 million for the period, compared to net income of $356,000 a year earlier. The company had $571,000 in pre-tax income and the loss was entirely attributable to a $9.9 million provision for income taxes. Klaus said Epicor increasingly runs into SAP as it goes up stream and into Microsoft lower down in the mid-market. Klaus described the rest of the competitors as the "rats and cats that you would think of out there that compete with us on a one-off basis." Executives also said that there have been sales of the company's SaaS product, Epicor Express, to 30 customers with 10 live.
