SWENSON TO LEAVE SAGE

Sue SwensonThe French flavor at Sage is going to increase as chief executive Guy Berruyer, who took over in October, named a fellow countryman to take the job as CEO of Sage North America. Sometime in mid-2011, Pascal Houillon, currently CEO of Sage France, will replace Sue Swenson, who has held the job since March 2008. What’s very interesting is that Houillon will become a member of Sage’s executive committee.

That was a status that Swenson’s predecessor Ron Verni held, but which Swenson has not. I don’t know if that has a particular meaning. The other organizational element that seems likely to impact the U.S. is that David Clayton, executive director and strategy and M&A director, becomes director of strategy and corporate development. Developing Web businesses was singled out as part of Clayton’s responsibilities, along with introducing Sage Pay into Europe. Berruyer is not putting the French flag throughout the parent company. Paul Stobart, CEO of Sage UK and Ireland gets increased responsibility as CEO of Sage Northern Europe, which includes those countries, Germany, Poland and Switzerland. Alvaro Ramirez, CEO of Sage Spain, gets Southern Europe. Ivan Epstein, CEO for Africa and Australia, gets the Middle East and Asian regions tacked on. The top financial guy, Paul Harrison, executive director and group finance director, picks up the M&A roles that Clayton had held. I am assuming there were more regional CEOs before regions were combined.
