BLOG: SAGE NEGLECTS CRM?

Sage LogoA blog posting by author Leon Tribe followed up on a post by another writer claiming that Sage had neglected the development of Act and SalesLogix since acquiring those products with the purchase of Interact Commerce in 2001. The blog was posted on the Microsoft Dynamics Community website this month. Sage’s response was not to comment directly on the claims, but to state that the information was incomplete and misleading.

There was a good deal of financial analysis involved in the author’s conclusion, but one of his points was that Sage spent about half as much on R&D as Interact had. Of course, Interact was a much smaller company so Sage should not have needed to spend as high a percentage of revenue because it should have gained some economies of scale. Since Act is not a strategic product – it was placed in the Value Business Unit a few years ago – it wouldn’t be terribly surprising if it didn’t get top investment. SalesLogix is another story. It has a reputation of being very good, but complex. The author shows its market share diving while Microsoft CRM’s is rising steady. I would say there’s definitely truth to the gains by Dynamics CRM and I would say that at least SalesLogix hasn’t been terribly visible.
