XERO UPS U.S. PRESENCE

Xero, a New Zealand company, has taken steps to increase its visibility in the United States. The company, which makes online small business accounting software, said at a March investors day that it was relocating its chief technology officer, Craig Walker, to this country and that a “Xero beachhead” was being established in San Francisco. It also said there would be a strategic update this month.

Xero Accounting Software starts at $19 a month for up to five accounts receivable and five accounts payable invoices and up to 20 reconciled bank statement lines per month; for $29 a month users get unlimited invoicing and bank reconciliation; and for $39 monthly the company adds multi-currency functions. The company offers a partner program for accountants. To qualify, accountants need three clients who use Xero and they must become certified. Members get the Xero Practice Ledger, a free version for running their firms’ businesses, and the Xero Partner Edition. Those practitioners with more than 100 clients using Xero gain Gold Partner status and they receive greater exposure on the company’s web site, access to additional marketing and resources, along with technical assistance for bulk migrations and ongoing individual support.
