SAP: WAITING FOR DROPPED SHOES

After attending a February SAP channel conference, I thought we’d start hearing the names of more resellers signing on for Business ByDesign, the SAP cloud product. There was a list of new VARs shown in one conference session and SAP very nicely shared the list with me since I couldn’t copy all the names during the brief time the slide was displayed. But we haven’t really had announcement. One company shown on the list, vehemently denied having signed for ByD. We also haven’t seen signings of heavyweight resellers.

Another, who begged me to removed ByD from its Top listing, doesn't display the product on its site. Not many would research the order of NetSuite’s having picked up RSM McGladrey last month. But I would have anticipated some stronger VARs moving in, especially given the number of Dynamics dealers that reportedly attended a session at the NetSuite show in San Francisco in May. By contrast, when SAP introduced Business One a few years back, it named names occasionally. While I wouldn’t go for Intacct’s practice of issue a press release announcing the new VAR de jour (de week?) there is value to creating the impression of progress. Right now the impression is there isn’t much. It may just be that SAP is leaving the PR to the resellers, never a wise choice.
