BYD TARGETS PRO SERVICES
With feature pak of Business ByDesign 3.0, SAP is making a big push for serving professional services. That's not an area the German software giant has been strong in, acknowledged Frank Iannotti, North American VP for- Business ByDesign. Previously that market was a much stronger arena for Lawson Software, PeopleSoft and Oracle.
"We are now going after service industries in a big way," he said in an interview this week. SAP is issuing a new release to ByD every six months and the efforts also include expanding into new countries, with Australia and Mexico the new frontier in this round. It is also working with third-party ISVs to get applications to market more quickly than by writing everything itself. For example, Accenture, signed in the effort to develop new partner types, has written an application for the chemical. SAP has also established a formal relationship with Grant Thornton, which Iannotti said now has a knowledge center built around ByD. Also, SAP concluded that its mechanism for "collecting feedback wasn't effective for a cloud environment," he noted. Users can now blog requests for improvements for specific categories of product enhancements.
