SAP ROLLING OUT HANA FOR SMEs
SAP will hit the market in March with versions of its Hana in-memory database technology for small and medium-sized enterprises. The company outlined the move downstream in a webcast this week. The products include Analytics Powered by Hana for SAP Business One. (I'd hate to have a title on my business card for, say, product manager for Analytics ...)
But before you get the checkbook ready for a technology that promises blazing speed in database queries, you need to do some hardware shopping. The Hana products for SMEs require high-performance computers that are designed to handle the technology. SAP execs said that cost would run around $10,000 with PCs expected to be available from HP, IBM and Dell. The company also announced SAPA Hana Edge which is designed for midmarket companies running All-in-One. Bobby Vetter, SVP of ecosystem & channels readiness said that the company also has "a concept in the pipeline" to enable BusinessOne and AO1 partners to host applications. (When I hear of an adult named Bobby, I expect a guy in a race car with vendor logos on his jacket.) No price was given for the Hana products, but those will be coming later. Thinking about the what the price of the software will be plus the price of the hardware, got me thinking that this should be one of those areas where a cloud product could be appealing.
