COLUMBUS BUYS FIRST TECH DIRECT
Columbus, formerly Columbus IT Partner, has acquired Dynamics reseller First Tech Direct for an undisclosed amount of cash. Led by John Silvani, First Tech has been one of the smaller VARs to break into the Dynamics Inner Circle in the last few years. Columbus, based in Denmark, said that the leadership of the Detroit-area reseller would remain with the company.
Now called First Tech Direct Columbus, the U.S. company carries Dynamics AX, GP, SL and CRM. In the information submitted for Bob Scott's VAR Stars for 2011, First Tech reported revenue of $7 million and a staff of 52 for 2011. This is the second notable deal in the Microsoft market in recent months. The first was the December purchase of ePartners by Tribridge. With the Master VAR program also bringing a kind of consolidation, it looks like Microsoft may be getting its wish of significant reduction in the number of Dynamics resellers. Founded in May 2001, First Tech Direct grew out of the wreckage of an earlier VAR operation, First Tech Sorenson.
