But as a prefix for company or product names, the "e" faded quickly, probably because it was associated with the dot-com bust and with the realization that the hyped nirvana of Internet applications were going to take longer than anyone thought. Think of other "e"s that have come and gone such as e by Epicor and eEnterprise from Great Plains. In February 1999, e by Epicor was announced as the "next generation of eBusiness applications for midmarket." At that point, I do not think there was really a first generation of eBusiness applications. Great Plans replaced the name Dynamics C/S+ with eEnterprise in 1998. That name disappeared and Dynamics was resurrected when Microsoft solidified its four accounting software products under the same brand. Of course, Microsoft does not have a truly native Internet-based financial application yet. And now, the buzzword is "cloud". That hit with force when I looked at the Tribridge web-page and saw that in January last year it changed the title of chief information officer, Thor Bendickson, to cloud operations officer. Well, I can't think of anyone with a better name for a cloud offering than Thor.
