COUGAR HITS 30TH ANNIVERSARY

Chuck Gossett, Cougar Mountain SoftwareCougar Mountain Software is celebrating its thirtieth anniversary. And this is probably one of the best ways to measure just how long on-premise accounting software has been around. The company was started in 1982 in Boise, Idaho, by Robert Gossett.

His son, Chuck Gossett, took over as CEO in 1982 after the elder Gossett's retirement. Another measure of the desktop financial application era is that Gossett noted some customers have been using their Cougar software for more than 20 years. Part of me wants to say, 'You mean it didn’t die during Y2K?' I think NetSuite would probably have a good description for software that has been around that long. Last year, Cougar made some noise under Mike Anderson, who was marketing director from March through November, and the company was reported to be revamping a lagging channel. It has been very quiet since Anderson left for another position.
