CDC SOFTWARE, CONSONA MERGE

John Clough, ApteanCDC Software and Consona, which provide specialized financial software, have merged to form Aptean. The deal brings together some well-known products, CDC's Ross ERP and Consona's Made2Manage. Officially, Aptean has more than 9,000 customers and 1,500 employees. CDC also brought its Pivotal CRM and Consona its Compiere open source ERP to the wedding.
The biographical sketch of interim Aptean CEO John Clough curiously omits his recent role as chairman and interim CEO of CDC Software, which went private this year after a bankruptcy court approved the sale of its stock to Vista Equity Partners for $250 million. That stemmed from executive turmoil not worth repeating here. CDC had been on an acquisition binge over the prior two years. Consona accumulated products, but at a slower pace. Manufacturing specialist Made2Manage was purchased by Battery Ventures in 2003. Made2Manage and later M2M Holdings became the vehicle for acquisitions, including CRM company Onyx Software in August 2006. The Consona name was created in April 2007. Consona also has very focused ERP packages including Intuitive ERP for manufacturers that build products for regulated industries; Axis for manufacturers of metals, wire and cable; and Cimnet Systems for printed circuit board engineering and fabrication. The company recruited some heavyweights as execs. Its president, Monte Ford, was CIO of American Airlines until stepping down in December during that company’s bankruptcy reorganization. Consona's COO Scott Malia kept his title with the new company. Ventyx CFO James Fitzgibbons got the Aptean financial job. Michael Howe left SAP as VP of, SAP Marketing Strategy & Operations and an 11-year career there this month to become Senior Vice President, Product Management and Marketing.
