SAP EXEC: CLOUD CLARITY NEEDED
SAP needs to do a better job of educating customers about the impact of its push to the cloud on the installed base, according to Adrian Simpson, chief technology officer of SAP U.K. Simpson made his remarks last week in an interview at the Business Cloud Summit in London.
In a taped interview, Simpson responded to an interviewer's question about the SAP User Group which had recently conducted a survey that found customers in the United Kingdom and Ireland were confused about cloud migrations and recent acquisitions. "We need to be spending more time talking to customers and what it [the cloud strategy] means for them means for them," Simpson told interviewer Charles Arthur who slipped in some tough questions among the softball ones you'd expect to be asked of conference sponsors. The toughest one for Simpson was "Are you leaving your installed base behind." But the user group's survey was well publicized and it's highly likely those concerns extend to corporate users in other countries. Among survey findings: 58 percent of 160 SAP users surveyed felt the company was not making it attractive enough for on-premise customers to migrate to the cloud and 80 percent did not understand how to upgrade to or integrate SAP’s on-demand cloud modules with their existing SAP implementations.
