ATS DENIES EPICOR SUIT CLAIMS

Vivian Keena, Alternative Technology Solutions Alternative Technology Solutions has rejected claims by Epicor Software that it engaged in infringement of Epicor's copyright and intellectual property. Based in Aliso Viejo, Calif., ATS is a consulting firm that specializes in serving Epicor customers and most of its management worked at Epicor. In a prepared statement, ATS president and Vivian Keena rejected claims made by Epicor in infringement suit against her company and said that its business actually helps Epicor and its customers.

"We've enabled them to gain greater value from their Epicor investment, which means they remain on Epicor maintenance and remain an Epicor customer. Our view has always been that we're an advocate for Epicor's solutions and that we're a complement to their business, not a detriment." Keena's statement came as ATS filed a response to the lawsuit and affirmative defenses, along with counterclaims. It also filed a motion to dismiss  several of the allegations. Epicor claimed that ATS holds itself out as an authorized reseller when it has never been one. The ATS site shows it does not sell Epicor 9, but offers extensions and add-ons that target the Epicor 9 user and also performs integration between Epicor 9 and Salesforce.com and Magento. One Convergence attendee who is familiar with ATS's business said it has spent its time fixing "screwed up Epicor 9 installations">
