PRIVATE EQUITY GUY NAMED SAGE CFO Featured

Steve Hare, Apax PartnersIn a move that ought to stir discussion, the Sage Group has named Steve Hare, most recently operating partner at Apax Partners, as CFO. The appointment is effective January 3 when he replaces Paul Harrison, who left in September after 16 years at Sage. Hare has more than 10 years of experience as a CFO, so we probably should not dwell too much on the fact that Apax is the company that bought Epicor Software and Activant Solutions and welded them together under the name Epicor.

Sage chief executive Guy Berruyer issued a prepared statement that pointed to Hare's "considerable finance and business expertise developed with global companies." Given all that, the thought has to be in people's minds is that Hare's appointment brings a direct introduction to private equity money if Sage is ever interested. Hare joined Apax in 2009 and was serving as co-head of the Portfolio Support Group. He was COO from June 2012 and in February was named Interim CEO of Netrada, an Apax owned e-commerce services provider.
