SAGE GETS A FRENCH CHIEF

Guy BerruyerGuy Berruyer, the new Sage Group chief executive, has taken over the job from long-time chairholder Paul Walker. That was effective on October 1, but you wouldn't know it because the only change to the company's Web page is that Frenchman Berruyer's picture and bio is in the place formerly occupied by Brit Walker. I would have marked the occasion with an announcement thanking Walker for his contributions and welcoming Berruyer on board.

And I think the new head of a company should signal its direction clearly to all interested parties. Let's hope Berruyer can do half as well running Sage as the French do in cooking (which would be an outstanding accomplishment in my opinion.) UBS analyst Michael Briest downgraded the company citing the lack of acquisition candidates (which is how it has grown), the need for a SaaS strategy and the prospects for a model heavily dependent on software support (which would probably suffer in a cloud environment). Briest dismissed recent reports SAP might buy Sage, saying there were no obvious buyers. Sounds like might agree with my thought it was a rumor designed to pump up someone's stock holdings.
