K3 PROFITS ON DYNAMICS AX, SAGE X3 Featured

k3Retail specialist K3 turned sales of Dynamics AX and Sage X3 into a rebound in business for the first half ended December 31. These results for the United Kingdom-based company resemble those of Copenhagen, Denmark-based Columbus for 2014. Both are producing growth on the specialized end of their business; both are benefiting from sales of their products built on Dynamics AX.

And both show the turnaround in the business in Europe. For the most recently ended half K3 had profit of about $1.5 million, four times the results a year earlier. Revenue reached roughly $57.9 million, a 9-percent increase over the corresponding period in fiscal 2013. K3 said it had $15.5 million in wins in its Microsoft U.K. division, more than 10 times the results year ago. Chairman Tom Milne wrote that "These encouraging results largely reflect the early progress we are making with our new Microsoft Dynamics AX solution, "ax|is". K3's flagship product here is "ax|is fashion", one of those typographical exercises from marketing people who must have hated high-school English. The Syspro and Sage division had revenue of about $23.8 million, down 3.3 percent, but those results reflected the disposal of what K3 called a small, non-core Sage business. On a like-by-like basis, division revenue was up 5 percent. Sage and Syspro results were not separated, but the financial report said about $9.2 million in Syspro maintenance income is recognized in the first half of the year from 430 Syspro customers. K3 is the exclusive Syspro reseller in the U.K. and Europe. One statement suggests Sage operations had been weak previously: "Our Sage operation reorganized its delivery and support operations at the beginning of the year and is now moving forward." A former Sage employee was hired as sales director in October.
