BLACKBAUD: NEW CHANNEL PROGRAM?

Word on the street, verified by Blackbaud’s Web page, is that the Charleston, S.C.-based marketer of nonprofit software has a new sheriff in town Steve Johnson, VP of channels. Blackbaud, you may remember, put a lot of effort into building a channel for its Financial Edge package a few years ago and then dropped it like toxic waste under new president Marc Chardon.

Blackbaud has acquired and kept the FundWare channel that came with its purchase of Kintera, but its site shows only 16 survivors from that era. However, there is also a list of 12 Financial Edge resellers. Now, the company hasn’t said anything, but the fact it recently came out with a lower-end (and lower-cost) version of Financial Edge would lead me to believe it might ramp up a reseller base for that product. This becomes a cost-of-sales equation and supposing that Blackbaud can’t sell everything via the phone or Internet in a cost-effective way, the traditional answer is third-party distribution. I have an inquiry to Blackbaud PR about the status of the program. The site has a three-tier program. It costs nothing to be a Silver reseller with a local presence; $5,000 for Gold status and a national presence and $7,500 to be a Platinum dealer and work internationally,  $5,000. As to other qualifications? All is saw was a submit button, thus saith the raven, nothing more.
