CLOUD ERP, LOW PENETRATION Featured

Two companies have recently reported statistics on how low cloud accounting penetration is among businesses. At his company's partner summit in August, Acumatica Jon Roskill, AcumaticaCEO Jon Roskill put the total at 7 percent for the midmarket and Intuit SVP Dan Wernikoff estimated the percentage for cloud financial products at small businesses as under 4 percent. In a more recent interview, Roskill said Gartner expects the midmarket share to hit 47 percent in five years; but that's still a ways from being the majority platform.

Mobile is a key driver. Roskill, who said September showed very strong sales, says, "78 percent of them bought Acumatica because of the need to get access anywhere on any device." Wernikoff 's presentation at Intuit Investor's Day in September said small business has lagged in moving to the cloud, but reported "significant acceleration." The company had 683,000 QuickBooks Online subscribers when its fiscal year ended on July 31, but the company ended August with 705,000, a 3.2-percent increase over a month. If it can sustain that rate for a year? You can do the math. By contrast, Xero added 11,000 in North America in one year.
