SAGE AND MICROSOFT ALLY Featured

Julia White, MicrosoftSage has extended an alliance with Microsoft via which the two will collaborate on product development on the Office 365 platform. This follows this year's agreement with Salesforce.com which enabled the company to get Sage Live to the market. The Sage announcement said, "Sage will deliver next-generation accounting and bookkeeping productivity tools built on best-in-class Microsoft cloud solutions."  (Does Sage have bookkeeping software?) The press release is not that clear about the kind of products that will be developed and I've had no luck getting clarification or any statement that this is as much as we will get for the moment.

It says the companies will "deliver cloud, on-premise and hybrid solutions at a global level." The core of this arrangement sees to be embodied in a statement from Julia White, General Manager of Office 365 product marketing. "By developing on the Office 365 platform, Sage will ultimately help accountants and bookkeepers to be more productive," White said. She described this as extending Sage's development on the Azure cloud platform. Microsoft itself has been moving this direction, integrating its Dynamics packages with its office offerings. There are a few other ways development could go, including using the Dynamics ERP software packages as the engine for accounting software, an avenue Microsoft spent several years promoting with other ISVs. There is also a trend of companies to write accounting software on top of Dynamics CRM, something accomplished by Gravity Software and Rockton Software.
