ELOP CLEANS UP AGAIN

Steve Elop, Nokia/MicrosoftThe controversy over the payout to Nokia's recent former CEO Steve Elop rings a bell. It seems Elop has as much success leaving a company as he does running one. This time, the debate is over the reported roughly $25 million payout Elop gets with Microsoft's buying Nokia's mobile phone group under a change of control clause (and a substantial decline in market value of Nokia stock until the Microsoft bid came in).

Unit4 logoUnit4, which markets the Agresso and Coda lines, has entered the Australian market. The Netherlands-based vendor named Peter Simons as Director of UNIT4 for Australia and New Zealand. These organizations, Agresso Pty Ltd., Connexxion Business Solutions, and S1 Consulting & Software Services Pty Ltd., "will be key in taking UNIT4 solutions to market and providing services around them," the company said in a press release. But otherwise, Unit4 is seeking to build its market through direct sales. NETSUITE: SAGE USERS TIED TO DESKTOP

NetsuiteNetSuite is not being subtle – is it ever? – in issuing a study that says Sage users are more tied to the desktop than the users of any other package. (I once knew a young lady who was tied to the desktop, but we won't get into that here.) NetSuite published a press release that reported a study conducted by YouGov "indicates that approximately three quarters of business leaders using Sage business software that were surveyed report having to access their business information from a desktop PC with client software installed, as opposed to through the cloud from any other device." YouGov, based in the United Kingdom, is described as a professional research and consulting organization.

OPEN SYSTEMS INTROS CANADIAN PAYROLL

open systems logo Open Systems and Kalibur Solutions has released Traverse version 11 Canadian payroll, designed to enable companies with Canadian employees to prepare payroll in-house. Kalibur CEO Zoltan Szakal says with the new module companies can run Canadian and U.S. payroll from one Traverse installation. Payroll does, well, the usual stuff, with Canadian payroll functions integrated with Traverse and capable of handling multicurrency transactions. It feels like Minneapolis, Minn.-based Open Systems is on a pace to issue more press releases in 2013 than in any year I can remember in the past two decades. This month, the company also announced a partnership with Argus Hosting, which provides online hosting and cloud services for ERP users. The deal provides services such as Hosted Virtual Desktops, automatic offsite data backup, and applied software updates for Traverse installations. Last week, Open Systems and Unisun Software they integrate Unisun's Envio produce inventory management software with Traverse. Envio's software is a packer-grower-shipper inventory management software package for the fresh produce industry. (That leads me to wonder who serves the stale produce industry?)
