MICROSOFT PUSHES DYNAMICS HOSTING

Microsoft has a lot of product promotions on its home page, rotating between various parts of its diverse product line. But this last week was the first time I have seen a home page plug for Dynamics Hosting.
Whether or not it's the first, I don't know. We can be assured it’s not the last. Starting with the question "Why choose a hosted ERP solution from Microsoft?", the promo outlined the standard advantages cited for Internet-based apps, including the need to get up and running quickly and to avoid purchasing additional hardware or entire software packages. There's nothing new here. But the prominence given the ability to pay via monthly subscription has me wondering how fast it will take Microsoft to create a user expectation of monthly payments. People have a habit of missing the point messages and I can't shake the nagging feeling this will create inquiries about subscription payment for on-premise products. The focus of the argument comes in the following: "Just like leasing a car, you can implement a robust financial accounting solution that will support your business as it grows with a low monthly fee." The dividing line here could be financing, not leasing. If the prospect is more interested in payment terms than technology, then a more aggressive approach to leasing/subscription pricing for on-premise software could be continue to be a very good idea in this economy.
