DELTEK GROWS, BUT WHITHER VARS?

Kevin Parker, DeltekFueled by its purchase of Maconomy, Deltek had a strong September quarter in Europe and the United States. But I’m not sure there's much opportunity for resellers. Revenue rose to $65.2 million for the third quarter ended September 30, up 1.7 percent from $64.1 million a year ago. Deltek lost $4.2 million, compared to earnings of $6.6 million a year earlier. And the purchase accounting used in acquisitions reduced revenue by about $7 million in the quarter.
But it was license revenue that had CEO Kevin Parker smiling with $15.4 million from that source, up 21.3 percent from $12.7 million a year earlier.  Parker said the architecture and engineering market grew, more in Europe than in the U.S,. as the combination of Deltek and Maconomy gave both greater credibility and resources. To accommodate the addition of Maconomy in the project accounting market and Input in government contracting, the company created two new divisions. Sales EVP Carolyn Parent was named EVP and GM of the Govcom unit while Hugo Dorph, former CEO of Maconomy, has the same title with the architecture, engineering and professional services group. The latter is the area where VARs have played. The reseller base has consolidated as acquired Sage resellers have sold their Deltek practices. Moreover there was no mention of channel revenue in this week's conference call. Since Maconomy didn't use resellers, I wonder.
