IDC: CLOUD SKILLS IN SHORT SUPPLY

Microsoft LogoThe demand for workers with skills in cloud-based I.T. is expected to grow by 26 percent annually through 2015 according to an IDC White Paper. However, the report, sponsored by Microsoft, concludes that worldwide managers failed to fill 1.7 million open positions because of the lack of trained applicants The paper is called Climate Change: Cloud’s Impact on IT Organizations and Staffing.
It concluded that while in the United States, I.T. job growth is expected to average between 1.1 and 2.7 percent through 2010, the growth in cloud-sector jobs will be much swifter. The U.S. accounted for 62 percent of public IT cloud service spending last year compared to 35 percent of worldwide total IT spending. IDC concluded training and certification are key to providing the needed personnel and Microsoft used the opportunity to toot its own horn about the Microsoft Virtual Academy launched in April and for certifications that it says have been redesigned for the cloud.
