SAP CHANNEL EFFORT DISJOINTED?

sapOver the last year, it’s been hard to shake the impression that SAP’s channel machinery for Business One and Business ByDemand is not a smooth working operation. Two years ago this month, SAP threw a great channel meeting in Savannah, Ga., one of the best-run events I have ever attended. There has not been follow through. That came to mind when Navigator Business Solutions sent a press release about its being named top VAR in the United States.

Knowing that another SAP reseller, Vision 33, also tends to  pick up awards, I visited that reseller’s web page and it had won for Business One. Alex Rooney, a Vision 33 VP, once approached me about how to become more visible in this publication. But over two years, the calls and emails went unanswered and it was no surprise that Vision 33 did not send out a release on this was not surprising. But SAP did not announce the winners either and once again these awards were handed out at a kick off meeting for the year. Last year, someone, and I can’t remember who, made a hurried contact about the possibility of having another channel conference and it was yes we will, no we won’t, maybe we will, and no further contact. And there’s nothing indicating another channel conference, at least one open to the press, is planned. That probably should be added to the fact it has been a long time since SAP has announced any reseller signings in the mid market. But guys, if you are going to have channel be such a big part of your business, at least let the public know about awards. Praise is important to channel, children and people in general.
