BLACKBAUD: CRM TO GO DOWN-MARKET?

Anthony Boor. BlackbaudBlackbaud is mulling taking its high-end CRM offerings down-market. But since it has been talking about that for about two years, it's not clear how soon any such move would occur. At the recent J.P. Morgan Global Technology, Media and Telecom, CFO Anthony Boor., said, "CRM really brought us a new piece of the market and good growth." He continued, "The opportunity with CRM is to bring that down-market."

The Charleston, S.C.-based nonprofit vendor has two upper end CRM packages, eCRM and eTapestry with eCRM sold into enterprise-level customers with complex implementations and a great deal of implementation. Boor said Blackbaud needs to come up with a product that is more "out-of-the-box" with elements such as tools, reporting and version. Moving down-market would also enable the company to do more with channel partners. And there had been an expectation that Blackbaud would have moved more aggressively into the channel by now. Coming out with a more affordable product for smaller companies should let Blackbaud work more with partners. "We don't use a lot of partners for implementation and customization," Boor said. A new product, he continued, "should allow us to build strong partner channels to drive growth."
