VAR BUSINESS PICKS UP
There is a general feeling that the midmarket reselling business is doing a lot better. "People are buying again," was the comment that came from one reseller. And as responses came back with the Top 100 VAR firms I asked many if they agree. Generally, things have turned up based on the input from several strong players.
This is not to say this is attributable to license fees from financial software vendors. The numbers shown by publicly reporting companies report that license fees are down and subscription fees are up. One top Microsoft VAR said 2012 was a great year, no thanks to Microsoft, and for reasons of mercy, his name will not be printed. "I would say that we really started to see a pretty sharp reversal mid to late last year," agreed Robert Janeczko, VP of operations for Paradigm Technology Solutions, a Dynamics reseller based in Allentown, N.J. The people doing well generally have specialized and often also diversified their lines. Paradigm, for example, has long had a strong transportation niche, along with other areas such as printing, healthcare and associations and nonprofits.
