DYNAMICS REVENUE TURNS AROUND Featured
Revenue from Dynamics products rose for the first time since the September 2008 quarter as Microsoft reported results for the third quarter ended March 31. Dynamics revenue was up 3 percent over last year’s corresponding period and that contribution left sales for the nine months down 1 percent. The company does not provide actual dollar amounts for its Dynamics results. The results are buried inside of Microsoft Business Division, whose revenue was $4.24 billion in the most recently ended quarter, was down from $4.5 billion a year earlier.
The company said the drop was primarily the result of deferred revenue of $305 million for the Office 2010 technology guarantee program. The deferred revenue stems from a guarantee that customers who purchased certain versions of Office 2007 can upgrade to Office 2010 that little or no cost. That guarantee went into effect March 3. I’m assuming the noisy ramp up for the release of Great Plains 10 on May 1 is going to be viewed in terms of its ability to drive revenue for the June quarter and help turn Dynamics revenue up for the year ended June 30. The accounting software quarterly box score fills out next week when Blackbaud, Epicor and NetSuite report.
