MAJOR WEB OUTAGE HITS INTUIT

Sites such as www.intuit.com, www.lacertesoftware.com and www.quickbooks.com also went down about 10pm ET on Tuesday, June 15, and were out nearly all day Wednesday, June 16. Unlike Sage’s outage, Intuit’s corporate email was not down. Sage had said its attack had been isolated to a storage area network. Intuit said firmly that the outage was an accident. While routine maintenance was occurring, there was a severe power outage that knocked out primary and secondary backup systems. In a Web post, CEO Brad Smith said emphatically there was no attack or hacking involved. Intuit put a priority on getting its applications back up, some of which were online late Wednesday. The informational Web sites did not start operating again until Thursday morning. Intuit made heavy use of social media to provide information to customers. This included a community Web page that was up and status updates on Twitter, along with posts on its Intuit ProLine Page on Facebook.
