DISCOVERING RETAIL PRO’S “ARUBA”

CEO Kerry Lemos spelled out the next generation POS platform for Retail Pro in a blog entry in July and the first phase was introduced in January.  But the fact that the company is holding a partner and user conference, its 2010 Global Conference, in Orlando, Fla., next week gives an opportunity to catch up since this is the first formal conference in two years.
I'm assuming that fact that in 2009 the prior company called Retail Pro, then in Chapter 11, sold most of its assets to the newly organized Retail Pro International had something to do with the hiatus. So with a chance to get back before customers and channel, Lemos wrote that the next general, Aruba "is is a completely new and different line of POS/Retail Management solutions that will allow the retailer to choose a centralized, decentralized or SaaS IT architecture." The company did issue a new release of Version 8 and Version 9, but Lemos emphasized the new offering is not a Version 10 since it shares no technological links to prior versions. However, the company will create data migration paths from both Version 8 and 9. Clients that choose not to move from V. 8 to V. 9 will also have a smooth path, he said.
