NO AICPA TOP TECH FOR 2014 Featured

AICPAThe American Institute of CPAs will not release a list of Top Technologies for 2014. Although a survey was taken, the results were not what was wanted. The official word from the AICPA’s Information Management and Technology Assurance Section is the following:  "A technical issue with the 2014 Top Technology Initiatives Survey resulted in a much lower response rate from U.S. public accounting firms than in previous years, and may have affected the reliability of overall rankings.” So, it was decided not to release the results.

This annual event was once the Top 10 Technologies and, at least I always eagerly awaited it and thought it was something that gave the AICPA a good hook for gaining public awareness outside of the CPA community. But a few years ago, it became the Top Technology Initiatives and there were separate lists for public accounting and business and industry. Instead of offering a clean, simple list, what the AICPA offered was complicated and murky. It seemed to lose its zip and there I developed the sense that it was not the priority for the Institute that it once was. I always thought this was the result of messing with success.
