QUICKBOOKS GETS WHOLESALE BILLING

Intuit has begun providing wholesale billing to its ProAdvisors so they can mark up the price of products and services delivered to their clients. In this week’s very newsy Investor’s Day, SVP Dan Wernikoff said Intuit had always had a referral model for QuickBooks. “We allowed you to give a discount, but we didn’t allow you in the business of doing the books for them and marking it up it,” he said. Executives did not give details about how this pricing works. Also during the session, Wernikoff outlined plans to replace QuickBooks Online Accountant and replace it with QuickBooks Accountant.

The LinkedIn page description by Rob Kirkey, who had run operations of Pronto Software in North America tells the story: “Senior Sales & Marketing Executive Looking For A New Opportunity.” The details are that Pronto VP Kirkey, who took over the position in January 2013, left in August this year. Well, we hadn’t heard much about Irving, Texas-based Pronto Software, which was created in 2012 to run things on this continent.

Never shy about labeling its competitors as stone age or pre-Internet, NetSuite has taken the battle to its advertising. The San Mateo, Calif.-based cloud software vendor is trashing SAP, one of its favorite targets, in an ad in the Wall Street Journal. The full-page promotion features a faux text conversation about an SAP implementation on the screen of a mobile device. Here’s the conversation: “Why is it taking so long to get our ERP up and running?” “It’s SAP. What can I do?” “You’re tired.”

SAP has named a new general manager for its much-maligned Business ByDesign. And the company says cloud product sales will rely more on channel distribution than previously. This is the most information we have heard about the latest reincarnation of ByD in several months. New GM and SVP Michael Schmitt said in a video he will bring together all teams that are relevant to ByD. Schmitt also posted comments in an SAP blog.

A press release that Tami Reller, Microsoft EVP and Great Plains Alum, has joined the board of directors of Avalara contained another nugget. It says that Reller is EVP and chief marketing officer at Optum, a health data and technology company, which is a subsidiary of UnitedHealth Group. A quick check of the Optum site shows no picture of Reller, yet, among the pictures of other EVPs and no announcement.

Pronto Software, an Australian company that makes manufacturing software, has named Chad Gates as COO. Gates joined Pronto in 2005 as product manager for retail in 2005. Since then, he has since held positions that include research and development manager and general manager in the company’s Victoria office. Pronto also promoted Gary Stemple to the job of development manager after serving as operations manager of core research and development.
KEYEDIN PICKS SAP VET AS CHANNEL VP

KeyedIn Solutions has named Ari Schur as VP of channel and alliance programs for the company, which makes cloud-based project management software. Schur’s job is to grow the channel globally. KeyedIn also says it has begun offer Konfgiure, its rapid application development platform, to the channel. Konfigure is designed to create custom configured cloud-based applications via a drag-and-drop interface. Schur worked at SAP from January 2004 until taking the new job, holding a variety of channel jobs.
EXACT JOBBOSS ONLINE LAUNCHED

Exact has introduced Exact Online JobBoss, a cloud application for small and medium-sized business. What is interesting is the change in nomenclature. After being sold in Europe, Exact Online was introduced in Europe and then brought to the United States last year. The most recent product in the line was an advanced distribution and wholesale application debuted earlier this month. Exact had tried to ride a relationship with QuickBooks to market success but said it needed to utilize the channel of its JobBoss and Macola manufacturing lines.
MYOB HITS 100,000 SUBSCRIBERS

MYOB, a software company based in Australia, said this month it has passed 100,000 online subscribers for its AccountRight cloud accounting application. While MYOB, whose name originated in this country, does not operate in the United States, it is notable for having invested in Acumatica in order to field an advanced package based on the latter’s software. MYOB also is important as competitor for New Zealand-based Xero, whose second largest market is Australia.
XERO’S U.S. CEO LEAVING

Peter Karpas has stepped down from his position as CEO of Xero’s North American operations after about seven months on the job. The New Zealand-based cloud software company said Xero CFO Ross Jenkins, based in San Francisco, Calif., will hold down operations until a replacement is found. Xero made the announcement earlier this month in filings with the New Zealand stock exchange. Xero CEO Rod Drury thanked Karpas for his work in helping “establish strong foundations for Xero in the U.S. market.”
