NEED FOR LOCAL TAX SERVICE?

money imageA meal spent with two accountants from Kentucky at Thomson Reuters Synergy conference this week produced a discussion of an interesting problem. They complained at length about the lack of payroll packages that can accommodate multiple local taxes that apply to one individual's income. They pointed to the problems in the Blue Grass state where county taxes can apply to employees who moving from one jurisdiction to another.

SAP NAMES MICROSOFT EXEC CTO

Quentin Clark, SAP SAP has hired Quentin Clark as chief technology officer effective next week. Clark joins SAP from Microsoft where he was most recently corporate VP of the business applications space. Before that, he was corporate VP of the vendor's Data Platform Group from June 2006 through June 2014. He held various roles in Microsoft's development since 1994. Clark takes over the position left by long-time executive Vishal Sikka.

AUSTRALIA'S UXC HIRES CFO

 Iona MacPherson, UXCUXC Limited, parent to UXC Eclipse, has named Iona MacPherson as its new CFO and corporate secretary. Eclipse is the company that purchased Dynamics reseller, Tectura North America, almost a year ago. She will take over the positions in January. In her prior job, MacPherson had held the same titles at Boom Logistics since 2007.

ACUMATICA RAMPS UP MARKETING EVENTS

Richard Duffy, AcumaticaAcumatica is planning to make itself much more visible during the next year. The company will roll out "Acumatica Across America" in 2015 and is increasing outbound telemarketing starting next week. "We are the Rodney Dangerfield of ERP," says Richard Duffy, ‎Acumatica's VP of partner strategy and enablement. "Not enough people know about us." Duffy says two telemarketers have been added, which triples the company's capability. That effort will focus on generating leads and "prospecting them through a nurturing cycle and then turning them over to partners."

XERO SNARES PAYROLL COMPANY

Jack Couch, MonchillaXero has purchased start-up payroll company, Monchilla, for about $7.74 million. Australia-based Xero is paying roughly $4.1 million in cash and the rest in 238,490 Xero shares for the Seattle, Wash.-based payroll business. Monchilla charges $5 per company plus $5 per employee for its cloud-based system. In a prepared statement, Jamie Sutherland, president of Xero North America, "We like the Monchilla team's straightforward approach to filing and paying payroll taxes."

EXACT M'FACTURING REVS RISE

Erik van der Meijden, ExactExact's revenue from manufacturing products in the United States made a notable move up in the third quarter ended September 30. These packages, reported under the company's Specialized Solutions division, rose about $14.9 million for the most recently ended period, up 7.3 percent over the prior year. Specialized Solutions include Max, JobBoss and Macola. During the last year, the company divested two of the unit's products, Longview.

DYNAMICS CRM LINKS TO CORTANA

MicrosoftThe fact that Dynamics CRM 2015 will integrate with the Cortana personal assistant on Windows Phone 8.1 might be the sexiest part of new product features. But the industry templates announced this week at Microsoft's Convergence 2014 Europe conference are probably much more important. Microsoft says it will add templates for financial services, retail, public sector, manufacturing and professional service, resulting in 27 available by year end.

COLUMBUS U.S REVS OFF DOUBLE DIGITS

 Thomas Honoré, ColumbusConsulting and reselling firm Columbus says it is "executing a recovery plan" for its operations in the United States. That follows a 21.3-percent decline of sales here, reported in the company's financial results for the third quarter ended September 30. Columbus, based in Copenhagen, Denmark, described the efforts in this country as involving a "reorganization of their senior management structure, and a strengthening of the sales management and the sales team."

MICROTASK GETS ACCOUNTMATE AWARD

Luis Leon, Microtask ConsultingReseller Microtask Consulting took home the President's Award for Outstanding Performance for 2014 at AccountMate's recent reseller conference. The Teaneck, N.J.-based company also received the company's International Partnership Award. Microtask has been led since August 1987 by managing partner Luis Leon. Houston, Texas-based Koenig Software Systems, led by Ken Koenig, was given the Director of Sales Award.
