K3 PICKS STRATEGY DIRECTOR

Tony Bryant, K3 RetailK3 Retail, a reseller based in the United Kingdom, has named Tony Bryant as strategic business development director. Bryant has served since September 2006 as head of business development for K3 Business and Retail Solutions. The company described his new role on its board as part of its "ambitious and dynamic vision for growth".

SAGE TIER CHANGE: ONE VIEW

SageSage's change to its tier structure is coming at the expense of smaller resellers. There's not much revolutionary--there's always a squeeze on smaller VARs. But in this case, the view is coming from a larger VAR, who attributes the recently changed tiers thresholds to some ill-chosen past moves. Requesting not to be quoted by name, this dealer says he believes the present situation grew out of an earlier miscalculation by Sage management.

ACCUFUND 5.02 DEBUTS

ACCUFUNDAccuFund has added a Travel Advance Management module to its accounting suite, which tracks employee travel and expense requests. It feeds a bill to accounts payable once travel advances are approved. When detail is entered during reconciliation, users can indicate if the bill was paid for by company credit card.

SBS GROUP BUYS RADIANT TECH

 Kathy Pennington, Radiant TechnologiesThe SBS Group, one of three Microsoft Master VARs in the United States, has acquired San Diego, Calif.-based Radiant Technologies. Radiant had been a member of the SBS network, in the SBS Group West Coast region since October. The Radiant office is headed by Kathy Pennington.

MONITORS GO BIGGER

Roman Kepczyk, XcentricThe Consumer Electronic Show was held this week in Las Vegas, Nev. While there were a lot of electronic toys, one trend that has more of an immediate business impact is the increasing size of monitors. "The big screens we are buying today are the little screen of the future," Roman Kepczyk, director of consulting services at Xcentric, said late in 2014 in a presentation about the direction of firm technology.

APTEAN GETS NEW CEO

Kim Eaton, ApteanAptean, which markets a smorgasbord of ERP ad CRM software, has named Kim Eaton as CEO. Eaton joined Aptean in August as COO. Before joining Aptean, she worked as SVP at NCR Corporation's Hospitality Division. Eaton takes over from Paul Ilse, who joined Aptean in March 2013 and led the company through the merger of CDC Software and Consona.

WHAT HAPPENED TO GEMACCOUNTS?

Ken Del Gobbo,  GemAccountsReaders may remember GemAccounts, an Australian financial software vendor that was moving into the United States. That was in 2013 and the last time I wrote querying about what has happened with the company that drew a response from Ken Del Gobbo, an industry veteran who had worked at AccountMate and later Acumatica. Del Gobbo was named as president of the cloud-based company's North American operations in October 2013 and said that things were happening, although he was not terribly specific.

WADE STARTS CONSULTING FIRM

Pat Wade, 180 SystemsAfter almost 30 years working for reseller organizations, Pat Wade, former president of Equation Technologies, has become principal of Toronto, Ontario-based 180 Systems. According to her LinkedIn page, 180 Systems has "independent ERP consultants that assist organizations in business process improvement, system selection, business case development, project management and ERP expert witness testimony."

QBO VP HICKS LEAVING INTUIT?

Terry Hicks, IntuitTerry Hicks is reportedly leaving Intuit after 15 years with the company. Perhaps more interesting is that Hicks has been VP and GM of QuickBooks Online since August 2013 and it would hard to name a job that has more prominence right now outside of the top executive ranks. Hicks has had some pretty hefty titles since joining the tax and accounting software company in February 2000.

SON OF QUICKBOOKS CONNECT

IntuitIntuit is taking the name of last fall's QuickBooks Connect conference and applying it to a 15-day mini-conference tour that starts next week. Certification and training will be available in 14 of the 15 towns and there will be presentations by software vendors and well-known industry speakers. The one exception to the general format occurs on January 7 at the Omni Providence Hotel in Providence, Rhode Island. ProAdvisor. Certification and testing will not be offered at this event.
